  1. the RBMK is not a weird reactor, that was only available because of technological inferiority! Its a totally good reactor – furthermore, the Soviets had the same reactor type as the West (VVER), so no technological gap that made them want to build the RBMK

  2. The RBMK continue to operate beyond 2001 – and no, this style of reactor has not been taken offline (Smolensk, Leningrad) The meltdown was for sure initiated when the control rod button was pressed, it was not automatic.
