What is Science? A culmination of the best ways we have so far developed to understand the nature of our universe? Or perhaps is it another imperialist white man social construct which seeks to invalidate cultural knowledge and principles. At one point this question would have been rightly laughed out of any serious place but it seems groups emboldened by limiting speech they disagree with have taken upon themselves to attack science and claim it too is just a social construct. Buck read a book, he thought you might like it too! The book is ‘On Tyranny: twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century’ by Timothy Snyder. The book takes a look at 20 things that caused and allowed tyranny in many forms to prosper in the 20th century. It is unabashedly anti Trump but neither pro left or right wing. It is a nice short read that will liekly make it way into class reading lists in the coming years, provided we don’t start burning books. Sic semper tyrannis.
Yesterday was International Holocaust remembrance day, on the 27th of January 1945 Auschwitz was liberated. Roughly 6 million Jews, 250k mentally disabled, 200k Romani, and close to 10k homosexual men. Despite being highly documented, having 1000s of complimentary personal accounts on both sides, and Nazi admitting it, some people still think the Holocaust was fictional. The nerds watch a video which is banned in parts of the EU. This documentary makes so many blatant mistakes it’s hard not to think they are intentional.
This week Buck breaks out his nunchucks focuses his Qi and transcends to clear his mind of all distractions. With the adequate number of montages Buck is ready to talk with his Guest Mr the Pinkman about martial Artist frauds. P.s – did you know Chuck Norris was really Carlos Norris?!?
Vance is back… this time he talks to the nerds about his time at Monsanto. The nerds were the first podcast to interview Vance and his position as the director of millennial engagement for Monsanto. Engaging with millennials is a crucial project, terrifyingly millennials are moving into more and more positions of power. That dumb kid in your class who traded his lunch for a pokemon card, yeah he’s now running for your local council man. Vance tells us some of the ways his position of engaging has changed since he started. Hope y’all enjoy.
The alt-nerds are joined by Dr Chad Hayes (http://www.chadhayesmd.com) to talk about the joint project to send him to the woo conference ‘Get your life back now’. In a moment of jest Natalie twitted the conference. Plans quickly emerged to send a real Dr to this conference. Thanks to many generous donors we sent Chad down to Florida to go see such big names as Mr Andrew Wakefield and Mercola.
In late October Myles was invited to Battle of ideas down in London. He went to see Vance Crowe, the man from Monsanto. Vance was shocked about Myles’ height. The Battle of ideas tries to bring multiple different view points for debate and encourages rigorous cross examination.
Buck is really milking in the lime light, he tells us, in depth, about he old beliefs on 9/11. Like many truthers Buck had seen and read opinions online and felt that gave him enough evidence to know the ‘truth’. He then also went out of his way to avoid information that challenged those beliefs.
